In September, OSIT launched the inaugural STEM Leaders Academy.  Eleven schools, both traditional public and charter, from four different school districts were selected to participate. 

Engineering Fellows Program

The Governor’s Office of Science, Innovation and Technology has partnered with Northwest Regional Professional Development Program, Southern Nevada Regional Professional Development Program, University of Nevada, Reno and University of Nevada, Las Vegas to develop the Engineering Fellows Program. The program was developed in increase educator efficacy and engage more students in STEM education across the state of Nevada.

Alyse Sobosan was named one of six 2018 STEM Teachers of the Year by the Governor's Office of Science, Innovation, and Technology. Sobosan has taught a range of science courses including Earth Science, AP Biology, and Science Foundations. She currently teaches Anatomy/Physiology and Biology at Equipo Academy in Las Vegas, Nevada. At Equipo Academy, she also acts as a Professional Learning Community leader, an instructional coach, pathway developer, and STEM advocate.

Truckee Meadows Water Authority's Resource Economist and Conservation Supervisor, Laine Christman, is using STEM principles to manage our precious water resources and ensure they will be available for future generations.

As part of its mission to invest in K-12 STEM education and STEM workforce training so that all Nevadans have the skills the New Nevada economy requires, the Governor's Office of Science, Innovation and Technology (OSIT) offers STEM Workforce Challenge Grants, designed to spark the creation of lasting partnerships between industry and workforce training providers.

Ms. Chang discusses the new K-12 Computer Science standards, Senate Bill 200, and other initiatives.
